Each year we celebrate excellence in public speaking with our Reo Rangatira and Manu Korero speech competitions. Our tuakana classes learn about writing and presenting speeches. It's a great opportunity to hear what's important to our tamariki and see them shine in different ways.
On the 23rd June we gathered as a community to celebrate Matariki. We shared karakia, waiata and offered our wishes to Hiwa-i-te-Rangi. We observed the rising of Matariki and blessed the names of our new Ngāi Kete classrooms. We shared breakfast together and shared our learning about Matariki.
Mānawatia a Matariki!!
It's so great to be able to have Hui-ā-Kura again altogether. Here are some of our awesome Kaiako inspiring us to be good friends.

What a beautiful day to celebrate the opening of our new playground.

What an awesome day today for our annual fundraising Duathlon. So cool to be able to have our whānau back in school to support and cheer our athletes on!
In Week 9 of Term 1 we had our annual Tuakana Athletics Day. It was a beautiful day celebrating our learning in long jump, high jump, discus, shotput and sprinting over the term. We came together in house colours for the first time this year. Everybody supported and encouraged each other and gave it their best. He pai rawe tērā rā!
Every year we start our school year with a trip to the Waikanae Pools. What an awesome way to start the year together. Ngā mihi to Whaea Bex for taking such beautiful photos of our tamariki.
