Positive Behaviour 4 Learning

Otaki School is a PB4L school. Positive Behaviour for Learning initiatives help parents, whānau, teachers, early childhood centres, and schools address problem behaviour, improve children's well-being, and increase educational achievement.

By strengthening relationships and creating more positive home and school environments, we remove barriers to engagement and improve students' chances to achieve at school and beyond.

PB4L is a long-term, systematic approach involving ten initiatives. These include whole-school change initiatives, targeted group programmes, and individual student support services.

Our school-wide expectations are:

Safe

Totally Responsible

Awesome Learner

Respectful

Te noho haumaru

Ū ki ngā haepapa

Tau kē ki te ako

Whakaute atu, Whakaute mai

In late 2017 schools in the Ōtaki cluster agreed to join with the Manaiakalani out reach programme. We signed a 3-year contract which runs from 2018-2021. We have had Manaiakalani trained facilitators working alongside our staff in the 1:1 device classes, we have regular Principal/Trust/Manaiakalani hui. All of our staff are becoming conversant with the Manaiakalani pedagogy of LEARN-CREATE-SHARE.

The original Manaiakalani Cluster in East Auckland has achieved outstanding results with its students. All of whom come from decile 1 schools.

The LEARN-CREATE-SHARE pedagogy continues to be ingrained in our philosophy and programmes, and with the continued support of our community and whānau and the continuing hard work from our dedicated teaching staff we will begin to witness a similar positive impact.

Lunches

Lunch By Libelle is a school food service as part of the 2020/21 Government’s Ka Ora Ka Ako | Health School Lunches programme where every student will be supplied lunch every day. This will start on our first day, Thursday 4th February. Here are the menus.

We have a breakfast club that operates every morning.

There is cereal, fruit and toast and milo available.

We are always looking for volunteers to staff our breakfast club. See Aroha in the office if you are keen to help out.

Kids Can

Not all kids have the same start in life. The Kidscan Trust is based on the belief that education equals opportunity, and every child, regardless of their social economic background, should have an equal chance. For families struggling to make ends meet, providing raincoats, shoes, food and toiletries for their children can be a real challenge - thousands of Kiwi children go without these basic items. The cold winter weather keeps many at home, while others arrive wet and freezing, unable to concentrate and at risk of illness.

We are delighted to offer all our students raincoats. As the cooler months progress the playground becomes a sea of black as our tamariki fill the playground with the Vodaphone Warriors sponsored raincoats. It is wonderful to see them arrive at school each day warm and dry in their jackets! We also have shoes available for our students.

As part of the programme we have food items for lunch and some health items, like tissues and combs and spray for hair lice treatment, available for all students.

The aim of the programme is to enable students to have the essentials that will help with their attendance and achievement in school.

We’re very excited to be a part of the programme for the benefits it brings our students.

Thank you KidsCan!

We support the Warriors!!
