Lunchtimes@ Ōtaki School
We offer many options at lunch time! We have a bikes in school, a play pod, scooter and skating area, a native bush for students to climb and build as well as having a range of P.E equipment for students to play with.
Bikes in School
Bikes in schools is a initiative to increase health, fitness, skills, safety, confidence and self-esteem.
During a PB4L hui in 2018 at a school in the Wellington area, one of our staff members noted the track and bikes being actively used. This was met with enthusiasm amongst the rest of the staff members here at Ōtaki School, and the road to making this happen was put in place.
A daily roster of classrooms and their monitors are displayed so tamariki are aware of their times.
Our students love to creative play! We have a play pod that has a huge range of scrap materials such as cardboard tubes, tyres, lengths of material, netting, ropes, crates and bins which extends the choices and possibilities of play for all children on a regular basis. The unprescriptive nature of these loose parts in combination with children’s inventiveness and creativity results in them using the items in endless different ways, enabling all ages, genders and abilities to find ways to play and socialise together.
