Touch is played term 1 and 4 every year after school on a Thursday at the Ōtaki Domain. If we find coaches we usually field a team for each grade. Parent help is vital! Permission for your child to play is needed and there is also a $5 fee per student. It is the parents responsibility to make sure your child shows up every week for their game. Uniforms are handed out at the game and they are to be returned to the coach at the end. The link for permission slips are here.
An annual inter-school Touch tournament is held every year in Manakau. We take a competitive team and a non-competitive each year.
KAUHOE - SWIMMING
Ōtaki is surrounded by water so it is imperative that all students become confident in the water therefore swimming is COMPULSARY for all students. Please ensure your child has their togs DAILY for juniors and Tues, Wed, Thurs for senior students
Senior Swimming
Senior swimming starts on February 9th at Haruatai Pools. Students will walk up to the pools at 1:15pm for a 1:30pm start. Lessons will be 45 mins long. Students will walk back to school at 2:30pm. Swimming lesson are FREE for ALL students.
Senior Swimming sports will be held on March 2nd starting at 10:30am. Strong length swimming place getters will be taken to the Ōtaki Inter-School sports held towards the end of term 1.
Junior Swimming
Junior classes start on February the 9th. Classes will swim daily. Our pool is heated and each class is timetabled for 45 minute swim time.
Kaiaka - Athletics
At the completion of swimming athletics will kick in. Students are taken through the fundamentals of long jump, high jump, shot put, discus, sprints and relays. Each afternoon classes go out and a rotation of events takes place giving a class 2 events to focus on in a session.
Towards the end of the term the seniors and juniors will compete in our school athletics competition. Place getters will be given certificates and senior place getters will attend the Ōtaki inter-school competition that Ōtaki School runs.

The Ōtaki School cross country gets held at Hāruatai Park, Ōtaki. Senior students train daily by running half the block of the school and juniors run around the field. It is important that the student wear appropriate foot wear for running.
The top 4 senior place getters will be selected for the Ōtaki Interschool Cross Country Tournament.
poitarawhiti - Kiwi NEtball
Games will be played every Thursday after school until the end of the term. Year 3/4 teams will be played at school venues and the year 5/6 team will play at Ngā Purapura. Year 3/4 competition will be based on the future ferns programme. If we have enough interest in the year 7/8 year group we will enter them into the Saturday netball. Failing that our year 7/8's can ask to play for Ōtaki College. We need coaches for our teams so if you are keen please contact Whaea Chaka.

Winter sports rotation
In Term 3, classes participate in a winter sport rotation. Fundamental Skills are taught and then followed by a game. Winter sports include Rippa, Netball, Soccer, Basketball.

Every year Horowhenua-Kapiti Rugby union come into school and run rippa sessions with each class. Students are shown the fundamentals of rugby and participate in fun games. The HKRFU also run an annual rippa tournament for years 3/4/5/6. The winners of the competitive year 5/6 grade get to attend the national rippa tournament in Wellington.

Ngati Raukawa ki te Tonga Basketball run a miniball module at Nga Purapura in term 4. Games are played on a Monday evening's. You will be responsible for ensuring your child turns up and is supervised while there. If you would like to coach a team please advise on the permission slip. Fees apply for participating in this sport and will be advised closer to the time. Uniforms are handed out at the game and they are to be returned to the coach at the end.

Summer sports rotation
In Term 4, classes participate in a summer sport rotation. Fundamental Skills are taught and then followed by a game. Summer sports includes softball, cricket, scatter ball and longball.
